The Rail Trail stretches 12.2 miles from the New Paltz / Rosendale town
line to the Gardiner / Shawangunk town line.
The surface varies from packed cinders to loose stone. A mountain bike

Perfect for casual family rides. Yield right-of-way to hikers and horses.
The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail Association, Inc. is dedicated to
maintaining, promoting, and improving the Rail Trail. Contact them
at PO Box 1048, New Paltz, NY 12561.

Singletrack
"Hey, where's the singletrack, man?" It's a question we get all the time.
The truth is that there is no legal singletrack in the immediate New Paltz
area. Yes, there are renegades who seem to know some secret spots.
We think it is irresponsible to ride on the private property of others
without their permission.
The closest and best singletrack riding is found at the
Stewart Buffer Lands in
New Windsor. The Buffer Lands adjoin Stewart/Newburgh Airport. The access is
at the DEC entrance on Route 207, which is 3 miles west of the Airport
entrance.
Other nearby singletrack can be located visiting - http://www.fatsinthecats.com/trails.php
