The Bicycle Rack is pleased to announce that Mike Kilmer will continue his Bicycle Repair Classes in 2024.
Mike has over 35 years experience as a professional mechanic and has worked at The Bicycle Rack since 1990. He has taught bicycle mechanics since the mid 90's, but had to stop teaching from 2020 - 2022 due to the pandemic. He started teaching again in 2023 with a whole new curriculum that has been greatly accepted, and he continues teaching currently.
Tune-Up Clinic:
The Tune-up clinic will be a total of six (6) classes. The classes typically start at 5:30pm and the teaching portion will run until 9:30/10:00pm. After Mike has finished his teaching portion, the students are encouraged to stay and practice what they learned while under the advisement of the teacher (the facilities will remain open until 12:00 for the students to work).
The Tune-up clinic will consist of just about everything it takes to adjust and maintain a bicycle (*the exterior* A tune-up does not include the interior workings of any of the components. The interior workings is the Overhaul clinic). For a list of what is taught as part of the Tune-up clinic, scroll down.
Students will be given instructional handouts on the days lessons, but are encouraged to bring pen and paper to also take notes.
Overhaul Clinic:
The Overhaul Clinic consists of two (2) classes*. The classes typically start at 5:30pm and the teaching portion will run until 9:30/10:00pm. After Mike has finished his teaching portion, the students are encouraged to stay and practice what they learned while under the advisement of the teacher (the facilities will remain open until 12:00 for the students).
*The Overhaul clinic is only available to those that have completed the Tune-up clinic. Depending on when the Overhaul clinic is given, you can either attach it to the Tune-up course for a total of eight consecutive classes, OR, you can come back and take the two classes at any later date they are given.
The Overhaul classes will consist of the interior workings and overhauling of the four major bearing systems. For a list, scroll down and see what is taught.
